2021-22 School Year: What were the backgrounds of South Panola School District students?

Black students made up 55.1% of the 4,260 students enrolled in South Panola School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 1.1% decrease from the previous school year.

South Panola High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 1,175 students.

A snapshot of South Panola School District schools showed 55.1% of students were Black, 39.3% were white, 2.5% were multiracial, and 1.1% Hispanic.

South Panola School District roughly covers six schools within Panola County and has a main office in Batesville.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
