Ole Miss Baseball’s Tristan Bissetta and Cade Townsend were recognized by the Southeastern Conference on April 20 for their performances last week. Bissetta was named SEC Co-Player of the Week, while Townsend earned SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week after helping lead the Rebels to victories over Southern Miss and Tennessee.
The recognition highlights significant individual achievements within the team. Bissetta is the first Ole Miss player to earn Player of the Week since March of last year, while Townsend is the first Rebel pitcher to win Pitcher of the Week since May 2021.
Bissetta contributed offensively by hitting a home run in each game played last week, finishing with a .500 batting average, four home runs, three doubles, ten runs batted in (RBI), and seven runs scored. He also posted a slugging percentage of 1.333 and an OPS (on-base plus slugging) of 1.883. Notably, he hit a 424-foot grand slam on Saturday that helped secure a series win for Ole Miss. Over his past eight games, Bissetta has maintained a .438 average with five home runs and is currently on a five-game home run streak.
Townsend delivered his third consecutive quality start against Tennessee on Saturday, carrying a no-hit bid into the sixth inning before leaving after six shutout innings with only four baserunners allowed and seven strikeouts recorded. In his last three starts, Townsend has achieved an earned run average (ERA) of 1.50 with twenty-one strikeouts over eighteen innings pitched while limiting opponents to a .172 batting average.
