Ole Miss freshman Daniel Tolf claimed a share of the individual title at the Watersound Invitational, which marked the opening of the spring season for the team. Tolf is the first Ole Miss freshman in almost a decade to secure at least a share of an individual championship.
The No. 9 ranked Ole Miss men’s golf team finished fifth overall in the tournament with a total score of 833, seven strokes under par. Tolf completed the event at nine-under (201), tying for first place with Michael Riebe from Vanderbilt and Nathan Miller from TCU.
The last time an Ole Miss freshman won during their rookie year was Braden Thornberry, who took top honors at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite in March 2016 with rounds of 69-67-69.
Tolf began his spring campaign by setting a new personal best for an 18-hole round, shooting five-under 65 in consecutive rounds.
Tom Fischer secured a tie for 14th place at two-under par, marking his sixth consecutive finish inside the top 15. Fischer, from Birmingham, Alabama, was also the only Rebel golfer to shoot under par on Wednesday and led all participants in par 3 scoring. He now has nine rounds below par this season.
Cohen Trolio ended his week at even par after posting scores of 66-71-73.
Ole Miss will compete next at the Cabo Collegiate from March 1-3 at Twin Dolphin Club in Los Cabos, Mexico.
