Ole Miss freshman Madi George broke the school’s single-season home run record during a game against No. 15 LSU on April 19, but the Rebels lost 8-5 in the final matchup of their three-game series.
George hit two home runs, surpassing Lexie Brady’s previous record of 17 set last season. She drove in three runs for Ole Miss (27-21, 2-16 SEC), contributing to a total of four Rebel home runs despite the defeat by LSU (32-14, 9-9 SEC).
The game began with George hitting a two-run homer after Mackenzie Pickens walked, giving Ole Miss an early lead. LSU responded by tying the game in the second inning and then took advantage of a fielding error to move ahead.
Ole Miss regained momentum in the fourth inning when Kennedy Bunker hit a solo home run. George and Cassie Reasner followed with back-to-back solo shots, putting Ole Miss up 5-4 and marking George’s record-breaking eighteenth homer this season. However, LSU tied it again with a solo home run in the fifth and later scored three more runs across two innings to secure their win.
The Rebels will return home for their next game against Southern Miss on Tuesday at 6 p.m., which will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
