Ole Miss Baseball lost to No. 2 Texas by a score of 11-2 on March 14, evening the series at one game each.
The loss comes after Ole Miss scored nine runs in the previous game but managed only two runs on Saturday. The team now holds a record of 16-4 overall and 1-1 in Southeastern Conference play, while Texas improves to 17-1 overall and also stands at 1-1 in conference games.
Tristan Bissetta led Ole Miss with two hits in four at-bats and is now five-for-ten in the series. The Rebel pitching staff allowed a season-high eleven runs and recorded just two strikeouts, their lowest total this season. Offensively, Ole Miss struggled with runners on base, going hitless in eighteen opportunities and failing to get a hit in nine chances with runners in scoring position.
Texas took an early lead with two runs in the first inning before Ole Miss tied the game at two apiece in the third. Hayden Federico scored from third base on a wild pitch, and Will Furniss added a sacrifice fly for the tying run. However, Texas responded by scoring nine unanswered runs, including big innings in both the sixth and seventh frames.
The teams will meet again for the deciding game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to stay connected through Rebel Rewards powered by Coca-Cola or by following Ole Miss baseball’s official social media accounts.
