Ole Miss secured two wins in a Friday doubleheader against Evansville at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field, taking the first game 7-2 and the second 14-2. The Rebels improved their record to 14-2, while Evansville dropped to 3-10. The teams are scheduled to play the third game of the series on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
In the opener, Hunter Elliott started for Ole Miss and allowed two solo home runs in the second inning but limited further damage. Elliott pitched five innings plus one batter in the sixth, giving up four hits, walking four, and striking out seven. He earned his second win of the season. Hudson Calhoun entered after a leadoff single in the sixth and finished the game with nine strikeouts over four innings, allowing just one hit and no walks for his second save.
Evansville’s Reid Haire and Ximi Baftiri each homered off Elliott in the second inning. Ole Miss responded with two runs in the third to tie it. Judd Utermark’s sacrifice fly scored Hayden Federico, who had doubled earlier. Will Furniss singled home Dom Decker to even things up.
Tate Sirmans hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, followed by another solo shot from Utermark in the fifth, putting Ole Miss ahead 4-2. In the eighth inning, Ole Miss added three insurance runs through singles, walks, and a sacrifice bunt. Calhoun struck out three batters in a scoreless ninth to close out the win.
Will Furniss led Ole Miss with three hits as every starter recorded at least one hit among their total of 15.
In game two, Cade Townsend started for Ole Miss and pitched five innings with one hit allowed and two walks for his second win this year. The Rebels built an early lead on a Collin Reuter RBI single in the first inning and a Dom Decker leadoff homer—his fifth this season—in the third.
The offense broke open with six runs in the fourth inning and five more in the fifth. Daniel Pacella hit a three-run homer after Brayden Randle and Owen Paino singled; Utermark added another home run—his tenth of this season—after Decker walked. In total, Pacella homered twice during game two.
Landon Waters retired all three batters he faced as reliever before Noah Allen finished pitching for Ole Miss, allowing Evansville’s only other two runs late in the seventh inning.
