Ole Miss secured a 7-6 victory over Arkansas State on Tuesday night at Swayze Field, improving their record to 4-0. The game ended in dramatic fashion when Brayden Randle hit a sacrifice fly to right center in the bottom of the ninth inning, allowing Brett Moseley to score the winning run.
Austin Fawley led Ole Miss offensively with three hits and a run scored. Tristan Bissetta, Collin Reuter, and Hayden Federico each contributed two hits. Right-handed pitcher Owen Kelly made his first start for Ole Miss, pitching three innings and striking out three batters.
The Rebels took an early lead in the first inning after Will Furniss reached base on an error that brought Judd Utermark home. Arkansas State responded with three runs in the third inning. Ole Miss answered back with two runs in their half of the third to tie the game at 3-3.
Arkansas State added three more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Collin Reuter’s first home run of the season for Ole Miss. After five innings, Arkansas State led 6-4.
Ole Miss narrowed the gap by scoring one run each in the seventh and eighth innings, tying the game at six heading into the ninth.
Relievers JP Robertson and Landon Koenig combined for 4.1 scoreless innings and recorded eight strikeouts. It was Robertson’s debut appearance for Ole Miss.
In the ninth inning, Reuter drew a leadoff walk and was replaced by pinch runner Brett Moseley. Austin Fawley singled to advance Moseley to third base before Randle delivered a sacrifice fly for the walk-off win.
Landon Koenig earned the win in relief for Ole Miss while Andrew Allen took the loss for Arkansas State.
Ole Miss will play again at home against Jackson State on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
