Ole Miss Baseball defeated No. 21 Florida 6-4 to open their series in Gainesville on April 2.
The win marks a strong start for Ole Miss (21-10, 4-6 SEC) against a ranked opponent, while Florida (23-8, 6-4 SEC) will look to recover in the upcoming games of the series.
Every starter for Ole Miss reached base at least once during the game, with eight out of nine players recording hits. Cannon Goldin went two-for-two with an RBI and Brayden Randle hit his second home run of the season. Tristan Bissetta contributed by drawing three walks, reaching base four times overall, and stealing two bases.
Taylor Rabe made his first Southeastern Conference start and struck out six batters over a career-high four and two-thirds innings. Hudson Calhoun earned the win by pitching two scoreless innings in relief, while Walker Hooks secured his first save of the season by allowing only one hit over the final two innings.
Florida scored first in the opening inning but Ole Miss responded with three runs in the third inning to take control of the game. Additional highlights included Randle’s home run in the fifth inning and Judd Utermark’s double that led to another run in the sixth. Despite late efforts from Florida, including a solo home run in the eighth inning, Hooks closed out the game for Ole Miss.
The teams are scheduled to play again tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. Central Time on SEC Network+.
