Ole Miss softball lost 2-1 to No. 4 Alabama on Sunday at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium after a late rally in the seventh inning fell short.

The Rebels, now 18-8 overall and 0-3 in SEC play, scored their only run in the final inning but left the tying run stranded on second base. Alabama improved its record to 23-0 and 3-0 in conference games.

Pitchers from both teams controlled much of the game early. Emilee Boyer started for Ole Miss and matched Alabama’s Jocelyn Briski through the first innings, recording three strikeouts over two frames. In the third inning, Boyer managed to escape a bases-loaded situation with one out by inducing a groundout followed by a strikeout.

Alabama took the lead in the fourth with an RBI single. Persy Llamas ended Briski’s no-hit bid in the bottom of that inning, but Ole Miss could not capitalize as Alabama extended its lead to 2-0.

Boyer kept her team close throughout, finishing with eight strikeouts over seven innings. The Rebels’ offense did not find momentum until their last chance in the seventh. Llamas led off with her second hit and was replaced by pinch runner Izzy Rettiger. With two outs, Cassie Reasner reached on an infield single that advanced Rettiger to third base. Taylor Roman then singled up the middle for an RBI, making it 2-1.

Alabama brought Vic Moten from the bullpen for the final out; she recorded a strikeout to end Ole Miss’s comeback attempt.

Next, Ole Miss will travel for a midweek matchup against North Alabama on Tuesday at 5 p.m., which will be streamed live on ESPN Plus.
