Ole Miss lost an overtime game to No. 22 Vanderbilt, 89-86, on Tuesday night at the SJB Pavilion in Oxford. This marks the second overtime contest for Ole Miss in its last three games.
The Rebels began the game strongly with a 15-3 run in the first seven minutes, highlighted by an alley-oop dunk from James Scott. Vanderbilt responded and took a 32-29 lead late in the first half, but Ole Miss closed out the period with an 8-1 run to enter halftime ahead, 37-33.
During the second half, Ole Miss maintained a narrow lead for much of the period. Vanderbilt managed to pull ahead 65-64 after a second-chance basket by Tyler Tanner. The final five minutes saw four ties as both teams traded baskets. Malik Dia scored an and-one layup and converted the free throw to give Ole Miss a 74-70 lead with just over a minute remaining.
Vanderbilt answered with consecutive scores to tie it at 74 with less than a minute left. Both teams scored again before regulation ended tied at 76, sending the game into overtime.
In overtime, Vanderbilt took control early with another and-one play and maintained their advantage as time expired.
Corey Chest recorded a season-high 11 rebounds during the game. Ilias Kamardine matched his season best by making three three-pointers. Patton Pinkins contributed 16 points, marking his sixth SEC game this season scoring more than 15 points.
Ole Miss will finish its regular season against South Carolina on Saturday, March 7, at noon in Oxford. The matchup will be broadcast on SEC Network.
