Ole Miss men’s track and field was ranked No. 6 in the Week Two United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Track & Field Rating Index, according to an announcement on April 7.
The ranking highlights the continued success of the program under head coach Connie Price-Smith, who is in her eleventh year leading Ole Miss track and field. Of the program’s total 42 top-10 rankings, Price-Smith has been responsible for 39, including both men’s and women’s teams. In outdoor seasons alone, she holds 16 of Ole Miss’ total top-10 placements.
The USTFCCCA Track & Field Rating Index uses a computer algorithm that assigns point values to individual performances to determine team rankings nationally. For this week, Ole Miss men scored a total of 192.42 points with significant contributions from athletes such as Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan, who earned first place marks in both hammer throw (77.62 meters) and shot put (20.81 meters). Other notable performances include Sterling Scott’s sixth place finish in triple jump at 15.90 meters and strong showings by relay teams.
On the women’s side, Ole Miss ranked No. 44 with a score of 48.31 points for Week Two. Standout efforts came from Akaoma Odeluga with fifth place in shot put at 17.42 meters and Lily Beattie’s thirteenth place pole vault result at 4.30 meters.
Ole Miss will host its next meet at home during the Joe Walker Invite scheduled for April 10-11 at Prefontaine Stadium.
Price-Smith has tallied a combined total of seventy-five out of one hundred thirty-nine outdoor rankings appearances across both programs during her tenure.
