The Ole Miss softball team advanced to the Lubbock Regional final after defeating Boston University on May 17. The Rebels recovered from an earlier loss in the day against Texas Tech, rallying to secure a 9-4 victory over the Terriers and extend their postseason run.
This advancement marks the second consecutive season that Ole Miss has reached the regional final, demonstrating resilience following a narrow 10-9 extra-inning defeat to Texas Tech earlier in the day. The Rebels’ performance ensures they will play at least one more game this season.
In their first game of the day, Ole Miss started strong with Kennedy Bunker hitting a leadoff home run and Emilee Boyer holding Texas Tech scoreless through five innings. Rachel Connors contributed significantly with a three-run home run in the fourth inning, helping build an early lead. Despite leading by eight runs entering the seventh inning, Ole Miss saw Texas Tech mount a comeback to force extra innings before ultimately falling on a walk-off sacrifice fly.
Facing elimination against Boston University, Ole Miss responded quickly as Madi George hit a two-run homer in the first inning. Persy Llamas added another two-run shot in the third inning while Kyra Aycock’s relief pitching helped maintain their lead during key moments. In later innings, Taylor Malvin drove in another run and Bunker delivered her second home run of the day with a three-run blast that broke open the game.
Boyer returned to close out Boston University’s late rally attempt and struck out two batters in the seventh inning to secure victory for Ole Miss. The team now prepares for a rematch against Texas Tech on Sunday; they must win twice to advance further from regionals.
Looking ahead, Sunday’s matchup is scheduled for 3 p.m. Central Time and will be televised on ESPN2.
