Ole Miss softball secured a 10-2 victory over Central Arkansas on Wednesday night at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium. The game ended in five innings due to the run rule.
The Rebels, now with a 12-5 record for the season and 2-0 at home, hit three home runs during the game. Taylor Roman, Kennedy Bunker, and Madi George each contributed a home run. Pitcher Emilee Boyer completed all five innings and recorded three strikeouts against Central Arkansas, which fell to 9-7.
Central Arkansas began the game with a two-run home run in the first inning. However, Ole Miss responded quickly. After Mackenzie Pickens walked and Persy Llamas singled, followed by another walk from Madi George, the bases were loaded with one out. Two consecutive wild pitches allowed Ole Miss to tie the score at 2-2.
Following another walk by Central Arkansas, Roman hit a three-run homer to left field, giving Ole Miss a 5-2 lead.
Boyer limited Central Arkansas offensively as Ole Miss continued to build its advantage in the third inning. Cassie Reasner started off with a hit and Bunker followed with her own home run to increase the lead to 7-2. Laylonna Applin stole a base and was driven home by Taylor Malvin, making it 8-2.
In the fourth inning, George hit her fifth home run of the season, bringing the score to 9-2.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Bunker and Roman drew walks before Liesl Osteen drove in the final run with an RBI single that ended the game under run rule conditions.
Ole Miss will next play Jacksonville State on Friday as part of opening day for the Ole Miss Classic. The event starts at 2 p.m. CT with ULM facing Jacksonville State in a neutral matchup; Ole Miss plays Jacksonville State at 5 p.m., with games available via SEC Network Plus.
