Ole Miss softball secured a 13-0 win over Mercer on Friday at the Green & Gold Classic in Birmingham, Alabama. The Rebels, ranked No. 25, improved their record to 8-4 for the season with this victory.
Cassie Reasner led Ole Miss offensively, hitting a home run and collecting three RBI as part of a 3-for-4 performance. Emilee Boyer pitched four scoreless innings, holding Mercer (also 8-4) without a run.
The Rebels started scoring early in the first inning after Mackenzie Pickens walked and Persy Llamas delivered an RBI single. In the bottom half of the first, Grace Thompson turned a double play on defense to prevent Mercer from scoring with the bases loaded.
Boyer kept Mercer off the scoreboard through the second and third innings. In the fourth inning, Ole Miss added to its lead as Reasner singled and Thompson walked. After advancing runners into scoring position, Tenly Grisham hit an RBI single that drove in two runs. Grisham then stole second base and scored on Taylor Malvin’s RBI single. Malvin stole second base herself before Pickens drove her in with an RBI double. Llamas followed with another RBI single to extend the lead to 6-0.
Mercer again loaded the bases in their half of the fourth inning but was unable to score after Boyer induced a groundout.
Reasner began the fifth inning with a home run, increasing Ole Miss’s lead to 7-0. The Rebels went on to load the bases and took advantage of errors and walks by Mercer’s pitching staff to add more runs, including back-to-back bases-loaded walks from Liesl Osteen and Pickens. Llamas contributed another run on a groundout before Madi George walked to reload the bases. Reasner batted again in the same frame, delivering an RBI single that brought in two more runs for a final score of 13-0.
Graycen Jordan made her collegiate debut for Ole Miss by pitching a scoreless fifth inning.
Ole Miss will continue play at the tournament on Saturday with games against Southern Illinois at 9 a.m. CT and Missouri State at 11:30 a.m. CT.
