The Ole Miss softball team lost 5-2 to No. 4 Oklahoma on March 23 at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium, despite leading into the sixth inning.
The game was closely contested, with the Rebels taking an early lead before a late rally by Oklahoma secured their victory. The loss leaves Ole Miss with a record of 20-14 overall and 0-9 in Southeastern Conference play, while Oklahoma improved to 32-2 and remains undefeated in conference games.
Kyra Aycock started for the Rebels and delivered a strong performance, recording a season-high seven strikeouts in a complete game effort. The Rebels scored first in the second inning when Madi George doubled and Alexa Rosales came home on an error by Oklahoma’s defense. Taylor Malvin followed with an RBI single, giving Ole Miss a two-run advantage.
Oklahoma responded with a solo home run in the fourth inning but remained behind until Isabela Emerling hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the sixth, turning the game around for good. Despite another scoring opportunity for Ole Miss in their half of the sixth inning—when Cassie Reasner and Taylor Roman singled and reached base on an error—the Sooners closed out the threat with back-to-back strikeouts from pitcher Audrey Lowry.
Looking ahead, Ole Miss will conclude its homestand by hosting UAB on Wednesday at 5 p.m., with streaming available via SEC Network Plus.
