The Ole Miss softball team ended its NCAA Tournament run on May 17 after a 14-2 defeat against No. 3 ranked and 11th-seeded Texas Tech at Tracey Sellers Field.
This game concluded the Rebels’ season, finishing with a record of 36-26 overall and a conference record of 6-18 in the Southeastern Conference. Kennedy Bunker led Ole Miss with a solo home run and also reached base after being hit by a pitch, but Texas Tech’s offense dominated the matchup.
After both teams went scoreless in the first inning, Texas Tech scored two runs in the second inning to take an early lead. The Red Raiders expanded their advantage significantly in the third inning by scoring eight runs, making it difficult for Ole Miss to recover.
Despite falling behind, Ole Miss responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the third. Bunker hit her solo home run to put her team on the board, followed by Mackenzie Pickens drawing a walk and Persy Llamas getting hit by a pitch. Cassie Reasner then drove in another run with an RBI double. However, Texas Tech continued to add runs over the next two innings—one more in the fourth and three additional runs in the fifth—to secure their victory.
