Ole Miss women’s basketball will face Georgia for the second time this season on Sunday, January 18, at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens. The game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CT and will be broadcast on SEC Network.
The Rebels, currently ranked No. 16 in both major polls and holding a 16-3 overall record (3-1 SEC), are led by head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin in her eighth season with the program. Georgia enters the contest with a 15-3 record (1-3 SEC) under fourth-year head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson.
Sunday’s matchup marks the 57th meeting between Ole Miss and Georgia. The Lady Bulldogs lead the all-time series 38-18, but Ole Miss has won the last five meetings—the longest streak for the Rebels in series history. Three of those wins have come in Athens, where Georgia holds a historical advantage of 20-4.
Reflecting on previous encounters, Ole Miss achieved its first-ever win in Athens against an AP top-10 team on January 24, 2010, defeating No. 8 Georgia by one point. In that game, Elizabeth Robertson led with 17 points and Nikki Byrd contributed a double-double.
This season’s earlier meeting saw Ole Miss secure a convincing victory over Georgia in Oxford with a score of 79-62. Five Rebels reached double-digit scoring, led by Cotie McMahon’s 24 points—her eighth game this season scoring more than twenty points.
Last year’s matchup in Athens resulted in another win for Ole Miss, finishing at 63-58. Marquesha Scott and Todd-Williams were top contributors for the Rebels during that contest.
Georgia has outperformed preseason expectations despite being picked near the bottom of SEC projections this year. The Lady Bulldogs have one of the best scoring margins nationally and feature key players such as Dani Carnegie—a transfer from Georgia Tech who leads her team with an average of 17.5 points per game—and Trinity Turner, who is averaging nearly five assists per contest while maintaining one of the conference’s best assist-to-turnover ratios.
In their most recent outing, Ole Miss defeated Mississippi State decisively by a score of 93-68 at home—their largest margin over their rival since February 1997. Four players scored in double digits; Cotie McMahon led with 21 points while Sira Thienou added five steals defensively.
Cotie McMahon was named Co-SEC Player of the Week after leading Ole Miss to victories over No.5 Oklahoma and Mississippi State while being recognized on the Wooden Award Women’s Midseason Top 25 Watch List.
