Ole Miss sophomore Persy Llamas has been named the No. 7 first baseman in the nation by Softball America, according to a recent announcement from the publication. This recognition comes shortly after Llamas was included in Softball America’s top-100 players list, where she ranked as the No. 59 player nationally.
Llamas is one of four true sophomores featured among the top-10 first basemen, making her one of the youngest athletes on the list. The Eastvale, California native received these honors following a strong freshman season that saw her earn spots on both the All-SEC Second Team and NFCA All-South Region Second Team.
During her freshman campaign, Llamas posted a .354 batting average with 10 home runs, 10 doubles, and 55 runs batted in (RBI). She also recorded a .990 fielding percentage and struck out only 11 times. Her 55 RBI set a new single-season program record for Ole Miss, matched by teammate Aliyah Binford.
Llamas and her teammates will begin their regular season on February 5 with a doubleheader at Cal State Fullerton as part of the Easton Classic.
