Cost of college went up for all students at the University of Mississippi

In-state tuition and fees rose 4.3 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Mississippi, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Mississippi residents paid $8,660 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $360 more than the $8,300 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 184.2 percent more than residents this year, or $24,614. Their price tag grew 4.5 percent from $23,564 in 2017-18.

About 43 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Mississippi residents. And about 56 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 87 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 2,838 students received grants or scholarships totaling $31.8 million and 1,510 students took out student loans totaling more than $13.1 million.

Including all undergraduates (22,456), 12,957 students used grants or scholarships totaling $132.9 million, and 7,572 students took out $52.8 million in federal student loans.
