White had the largest percent of student body in Lafayette County schools in 2019-2020 school year

Of the 7,404 students enrolled in Lafayette County schools in 2019-2020, 59.9% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Lafayette County students.

This is a 1.5% decrease from the previous school year.

Oxford High School had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Lafayette County schools showed 59.9% students were White, 29.4% were Black or African American, 4.6% were Hispanic or Latino, 2.3% were Asian and 2.2% were Two or More Races.

There are 10 schools in Lafayette County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
