The Ole Miss softball team achieved two significant milestones on Friday in Lafayette, Louisiana. The Rebels, ranked No. 21 nationally, defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Louisiana to improve their season record to 6-3.
In the first game, pitcher Lilly Whitten threw a no-hitter over six innings as Ole Miss secured an 8-0 run-rule victory against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. This was Whitten’s fourth appearance for the Rebels. She recorded multiple double plays and allowed only one walk while striking out several batters. The offense provided early support with key hits from Taylor Malvin, Mackenzie Pickens, Persy Llamas, Cassie Reasner, and Makenna Bellaire.
The second game saw head coach Jamie Trachsel become the winningest coach in program history with her 188th victory after a 5-2 win over Louisiana. “Trachsel became the program’s all-time winningest coach, recording her 188th victory in a 5-2 decision against the Ragin’ Cajuns,” according to the team.
Pickens contributed a solo home run to start the scoring in game two. Pitcher Kyra Aycock held Louisiana hitless through two innings and finished with a complete game, allowing only two unearned runs and striking out four batters.
Ole Miss will conclude its participation at the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational on Saturday with another matchup against Louisiana at 1:30 p.m. CT. The contest will be available via ESPN Plus.
